Bases Almost none of the men on our team had any cheerleading experience before university. What draws them to the program is the feats of strength and coordination that they can and will learn if they join the team. Most men can learn a backflip (standing back tuck) and basic overhead stunting in their time on the team. Some have learned advanced stunting, some have excelled in tumbling, but all are held as a premium because of strength. Tosses and pyramids benefit the most from having lots of guys on the team, so we will often carry as many men as we can. At the beginning level, every guy will have lots of opportunity to learn all sorts of stunts and tricks, however it becomes more competitive in upper years on the team to perform better and better. Since so much strength will eventually be an asset on the team, most of our male athletes significantly improve their physique (start small, end big) over their time on the team. We have a diet plan and workout plan for team members looking to add muscle mass, we have a instant support group of weightlifters, and it should be easy to find a workout partner on the team. If you aren't all that interested in bulking up, your strength will increase regardless. You might find a niche role as a secondary base, with more focus on the tumbling aspect. The coed training environment is a unique experience, limited usually to pairs sports (tennis, badminton, figure skating), but is often one of the things most enjoyed by athletes in cheerleading. Tumblers and Gymnasts Tumbling makes up a large part of the scoring system in cheerleading, making it a huge asset when trying out. If you can tumble, we absolutely want to see you at a tryout! What we give back to the tumblers out there is a sprung floor, crash mats, and devices to help you improve your level (or revive your old level) of tumbling. Tumblers also are generally coordinated, making them ideal candidates to learn stunting and basket tosses. Ex-gymnasts, this is your place to come be part of a team, and meet some people who train like you did throughout gymnastics. Back yard tumblers, and martial artists, this is a place for you to come show off your skills, and have an instant fan base (the whole team). Almost every team member has huge respect for parcour, and any flipping, breakdancing or martial arts tricks. |
